We’re competing in the RAAM – the toughest bicycle race in the world!

Santa Barbara Green Power (SBGP) is an eight man cycling team. We are competing in the Race Across America (RAAM), starting in June 2008. We’ll be racing non-stop, day and night and in all weather, more than 3000 miles from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD.

The RAAM has been an annual event since 1982. It is 50% longer than the Tour de France, and is known as the toughest bicycle race in the world.

The team’s objectives are:

*   To raise money for CALM (Child Abuse Listening and Mediation). CALM is a Santa Barbara non-profit organization dedicated to preventing, assessing and treating child abuse in our community.

*   Promote renewable energy, sustainable lifestyles, and cycling as a healthy and eco-friendly means of transportation

*   To finish the race in 7 days.

The SBGP team name is derived from a strong commitment to environmental stewardship through the promotion of sustainable practices and renewable energy use. The team and its founders recognize the necessity for a sustainable environment. SBGP, associated with the City of Santa Barbara, will carry its message of sustainability across the continent during this high powered cycling event.
